Memorial Day
- Memorial Day is an American holiday where we honor men and women who have died while serving the U.S. military.
- Memorial Day take place on the last monday of May. This year it takes place on May 29, 2017.
- A few ways to show honor and respect on Memorial Day is to display the American flag, lay flowers or plant flags at a Veterans cemetery, visit a military memorial, etc.
- Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. This holiday birthday was started by President Lyndon Johnson in May of 1966. Memorial day was created after the civil war, which ended in 1865. On the first memorial, General James Garfield gave a speech at the Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C to give honor and respect to those in the war.
- Somethings I will do to show honor and respect on this Memorial Day is; I will do the pledge of allegiance when I wake up, I will put up an American Flag, I will fly the flag outside my home, I will take a remembrance of my trip to D.C.
- Memorial Day isn’t something I really know about, but with this information I learned gives me an idea of what this day is about. This holiday is a great way to show our honor and respect to those who died serving our country. This holiday should be honor and taken into consideration by others of those who serve for us without a necessary to. Memorial Day is a great excuse to show our respect with fun things to get the little ones to know. Memorial Day may not be celebrated by all, but it should be a day where everyone knows what it is. We should all pay our respects and have no disrespect towards the others. Everyone should take in this day and remember those who died. Memorial Day is always remembered on the last monday of May.
